Teenage Granny, created by Alyana Cabral from Manila, Philippines, is an electronic project that seeks to dismantle pop music to its purest elements, reassembling them into seamless amalgams and soundscapes via unorthodox methods not limited to musique
concrète, glitch, drone, and databending, while fixating thematically on the mundane aspects of life as viewed through contemporary and childish lens.” (Dominic Zinampan)
Her latest release, “Glossolalia (The Harsh Sounds of the Internet)”, is a critique of our online culture and consumption, in the form of random internet data converted and translated into sound.
Her debut EP, Teenage Grannycore, was made in collaboration with eclectic producer Eyedress, and released as a 7” pressing under Big Love Records Harajuku, Tokyo.
What lies at the core of Teenage Granny is a warping and questioning of pop and poetry, filtered through spontaneity, as reflected by her semi-improvised performances.
Alyana believes in the authenticity of amateurism, as well as catharsis through words, drone, and noise.
