about

Beirut Undreaming
Project description:
Between 2018 and 2019, I spent a very productive period in Lebanon, working at the
American University of Beirut as a Mellon-funded postdoctoral fellow. The city’s
complex urban span, and the general hospitality and friendliness moved me very
deeply. At the same time, I was intrigued by its layered socio-political history.
During my stay, I made a number of visits to the abandoned Oscar Niemeyer Dome,
Tripoli. This piece is a remembrance to the ethereal auditory setting and the natural
spatiality of the ghostly site, which stands as a fading out of a dream from an early
morning - symptomatic of the deep crisis the country currently is going through.
