Saadet Türköz is an improvisational vocalist. Born in Istanbul to parents who were Kazakh refugees from East Turkestan (Xinjiang , Uyghur Autonomous Region in China), Türköz learned the rich oral and musical traditions of Central Asia from the elderly people of the Kazakh community in Istanbul . She was strongly influenced by the tales of their homeland, the long journey to Turkey, etc. Those tales became later an imaginative source for her improvisational singing. The Koran that she listened to as a child has also been a source of influence. Its Arabic sound and melodious text gave her the first opportunity to improvise freely without paying attention to  the  correct  meaning  of  the  beautiful  language.
At the age of 20, she moved to Zurich, where she experienced a new music world : free jazz, improvisation, and an experimental and unbiased approach to her musical roots. Currently based in Zurich, she is active in giving solo concerts, as well as performances with other musicians, in different countries. The musicians she has collaborated with include Martin Schuetz, Hans Hassler, Elliot Sharp, Eyvind Kang, Peter Kowald, Lellio Gianetti, Okkyung Lee, the Koch-Schütz-Studer Trio, Fred Frith, Carl Stone, Xu Feng Shia, Peggy Lee, Michiyo Yagi, Koichi Makigami, Korhan Erel, and many other.
