Isuru Kumarasinghe

Isuru Kumarasinghe is a musician from Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, born in 1987, who first began delving into the expanse of sonic artistry and music at the age of 13.
From his early days creating original music with computer software, Isuru’s interest later deepened towards the recondite nature of sound experience, acoustic potential and expanding perception of listening.
Although initially working in isolation and largely self-educated, some collaborations with theatre and dance groups let him later to work with the Chamber Music Society of Colombo for Terry Riley’s In C with live sound manipulation. His performances include : “Colomboscope” 2015, Theertha performance platform 2015/2017 (sound performance), “When Cage Birds Sings” by Gayathri Kemadasa, “Dancing in the Dark” by Venuri Perera and Isaac Smith to name a few. His works have been shown at at Colomboscope 2015
(amplified microphone and speakers sound installation), Colomboscope 2016: “Close
to the bone” (immersive sonic play in collaboration with Arun Welandawe-Prematilleke), Norient: Seismographic Sounds in Germany 2015 (mixtape of Sri Lankan contemporary music), Down Town Pulse : 2012, 2014, 2016 (free improvised music based on Sri Lankan ritual music), “Where the small things are” (12 channel Sound installation for Serendipity Art Festival 2016 in Goa, India).
He largely takes part of the Sri Lankan underground art scene as experimental musician visual/sonic and sound artist.. Isuru umarasinghe is currently a member of Musicmatters collective and co-organises the Musicmatters festival of non mainstream and experimental music in Colombo.
